New alcohol restrictions aimed at safety

CASK wine that costs under $15 will no longer be sold before 4pm in the Mareeba Shire after new measures were announced by the Mareeba Liquor Accord.
The accord includes local licensed venues, Mareeba Shire Council, Queensland Police Service, Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation and other stakeholders.
The accord says the new measures, which also include not selling chilled cask wine at any time, are aimed at addressing alcohol-related issues in the community.
The restrictions came into effect last Thursday.
The accord will continue to monitor the impact of the new restrictions through data collection and feedback from local businesses and community members. Adjustments to the measures will be considered as needed to ensure they remain effective and responsive to emerging issues.
