New campaign aims for healthy outcomes

A NEW campaign aimed at encouraging Queenslanders to take simple, achievable steps to improve their health and wellbeing has been launched.

The Queensland Government, through Health and Wellbeing Queensland, has launched “Healthy is Happening” – a new statewide campaign designed to support people to make small, practical changes to boost their health and wellbeing.

Backed by new, independent research from a representative sample of more than 1600 Queenslanders aged 25–54, the campaign responds directly to the challenges people face when trying to live a healthier life including cost, lack of time, and limited support.

Despite these challenges, the research showed that healthy behaviours were already happening: one in three people walk daily, one in three cook fresh meals, and more than half exercise at least once a week.

Key research insights included that 24% wanted to exercise more but felt they couldn’t afford it; only one in five felt supported by family or friends to make healthy changes; only one in five Queenslanders felt they currently had the opportunity to improve their health; and 44% said the cost of food limited how healthily they could eat.

“Healthy is Happening” takes a new approach, directly reflecting the needs and experiences of real people right across the state through their own words and communities.

Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Tim Nicholls said the government was committed to helping Queenslanders live longer, healthier lives.

“The ‘Healthy is Happening’ campaign engages and encourages Queenslanders to take concrete action in their daily lives and routines, supporting small changes that make a real difference to their health and wellbeing over time,” he said.

Health and Wellbeing Queensland chief executive Dr Robyn Littlewood said preventive health measures had significant impacts on long-term health outcomes.

“Movement, nutrition and sleep are three of the most effective ways we can improve our health,” she said.

“Even modest increases in physical activity can significantly reduce the risk of chronic conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and some cancers.”

“What Queenslanders told us – through statewide research and on-the-ground conversations across regional communities – directly shaped the campaign’s insights, creative direction and call to action.

“Healthy is Happening is about helping people take those small, sustainable steps: a short walk, an extra serve of vegetables, stretching before bed, or drinking more water. These changes stack up over time and make a meaningful difference to health and wellbeing.”

The campaign is running statewide until March 2026, across digital media.
