New community hub opens
A GENUINE desire to help make a difference in people’s lives has been the driving force behind the establishment of a new community hub set to open its doors in Mareeba this Wednesday.
Shana Aue and his wife Jenna are behind the new Ignite Community Hub, located at 99 Byrnes Street, which is aimed at being a place where people “come to connect, learn, and grow”.
From hands-on training and a barbering academy to community hampers and support programs, Shana says it’s all about making a difference whether that is teaching new skills or supporting those who are struggling to get by.
The not-for-profit initiative is a welcoming space open to everyone – regardless of background, age, or circumstance.
For Shana, the opening of the hub is not only about offering services, he’s on a mission from God.
“I came from not much, our family scraped by, but now that I’m a parent, I want to help kids have hope they have a good life with meaningful help but also to reveal to them that God’s love will provide,” he said.
“It’s not my walk – it’s God’s mission and that’s the heartbeat of the hub – to show his love with actions. He blessed me and I wanted to share those blessings.”
Shana says the hub is collaborating with other organisations such as Foodbank Australia and Thread Together to be able to offer assistance to people who are struggling with food and clothing.
As the hub evolves, more initiatives will be put in place including special men’s and women’s programs.
The hub will be open from Monday to Friday and anyone is invited to call by and have a chat.
“The Ignite Community Hub exists to be more than just a service provider – we aim to be a place where people feel seen, supported, and encouraged to move forward,” Shana said.
“Whether someone is looking to learn, connect, or simply access support, our doors are open.”
The grand opening of the hub will be at 2pm Wednesday.
