New facilities boost student support
LEARNING and wellbeing support at Mareeba State School will continue to improve in 2026, with the school’s recently introduced Flexispace and on-site Health Hub showing promising signs late last year.

The school’s newly introduced initiatives were “already having a significant positive impact” on its students last year, with the Flexispace being dedicated to literacy improvement and the Health Hub offering general practitioner (GP) services.
The Flexispace provides targeted support, specifically in reading and writing, and offers personalised instruction and focused guidance to help students develop core academic skills.
The program has already drawn statewide interest, with the school presenting its Flexispace model to multiple Queensland schools through a Department of Education meeting in 2025.
Building on this momentum, the program will continue to be showcased in 2026 through a series of promotional videos highlighting successful Flexispaces operating across Queensland schools.
Mareeba State School has also launched a school-based Health Hub in partnership with Atherton Health Hub, giving students access to a GP on-site every Wednesday. In the first seven weeks alone, the clinic saw strong engagement, with 38 appointments booked and 34 attended.
Families have provided overwhelmingly positive feedback, noting a “thorough” and “caring” approach from GP Dr Marika Goodman, ease of access and no wait times, convenience of having medical care available on school grounds, and successful referrals and support connections for families needing external services.
Families can continue to book appointments throughout 2026 by contacting the Atherton Health Hub on (07) 4235 7879 and requesting a Mareeba State School clinic booking.
