The awards were previously part of the annual rodeo program, but now have been taken up by the Lions Club to keep the traditional competition going.

Entries are open now for the seven awards which include Residential Garden, Rural Residential, Patio Living Area, Edible Garden, Commercial Garden, Australian Native Garden, and School Garden.

Additionally, awards will be presented for the Champion Garden and a New Garden Encouragement award.

Entry is free, with registrations closing on Friday 30 August. Judging will take place between 2-6 September, with a celebratory afternoon tea awards ceremony scheduled for 13 September at the Cedric Davies Community Hub.

The ceremony will also feature a mini cent sale with most prizes valued at around $100.

Entries for the garden awards can be lodged by going to lionsclubmareeba.org/mareeba-district-lions-garden-awards/, visiting the Lions stall at the Mareeba Markets, or by calling Norma Maloney on 0417 541 126.

To book for the afternoon tea ceremony, which costs $15 per person, go to https://www.trybooking.com/DEETP
