New live cattle comp
FAR Northern cattle producers are being encouraged to enter in a new cattle standards contest to be decided in July.

Nutrien Ag Solutions Far Northern and North West manager Tom Mugford announced that his company and the Cairns Show Association will be sponsoring the competition that will decide the winners of the pen and other classes at the Mareeba Saleyards special Cairns Show Store Sale on Thursday 16 July.
“Given the announcement of the new live cattle competition, graziers are encouraged to select their cattle entries early and to start preparing them for the highly competitive contest,” he said.
“We see excellent cattle produced locally throughout the while Far North Queensland region and this new live cattle sale competition is a way of acknowledge the best of the best as part of the many faceted annual Cairns Show competitions, so the winning awards will carry certain region acclaim and excellence.”
He said that as well as the keen nature of the new competition among graziers, there would also be competition coming from buyers.
“These include, but are not restricted to, other cattle breeders and graziers and, of course, the many butchers across the region who will be able to either add their purchases to their own stock, or those butchers who can highlight their purchases as part of their instore sales and marketing as representative of the best beef in Far North Queensland,” Mr Mugford said.
“This Nutrien Ag Solutions-Cairns Show Association competition is a unique opportunity for graziers and buyers to gain acclaim and participation will ensure recognition from both ends of the Far Northern cattle industry.
“More details will follow in coming weeks regarding classes and entry deadlines, so this is a heads up for everyone to get ready for a unique cattle industry opportunity.”
