New pump track for Julatten
A NEW pump track will be built at Julatten, after a survey indicated that the community would prefer the track over another playground.

Mareeba Shire Council undertook extensive community engagement with the Julatten and Mount Molloy community to determine the favoured option for Geraghty Park once the old playground, which has reached the end of its useful life, was removed.
Council secured funding through the Queensland Government Works for Queensland Program to construct a new play option which created much discussion in the community, with some requesting a new playground and others advocating for a pump track.
To find a way forward for the project, council put the decision into the hands of the Julatten and Mount Molloy community and invited them to make their views known through a survey.
Mareeba Shire Mayor Angela Toppin said it was important to the councillors that the residents were given the opportunity to vote for their preferred play option and to have a say on the future of Geraghty Park.
“Residents from Julatten and Mount Molloy were encouraged to complete a survey and vote for a new playground or a pump track,” she said.
She said both options offered strong community benefits however, the option that received the highest number of votes would be built.
“A total of 239 votes were lodged and the results were extremely close. Both options were well supported by the community. The pump track received 122 votes, the playground 117 votes,” Mayor Toppin said.
“The community has spoken and council will build a pump track at Geraghty Park.”
It is expected construction of the new pump track will commence after the upcoming wet season.
