New race committee

THE Great Wheelbarrow Race has a new advisory committee, with the appointment of two members by the Mareeba Shire Council.

Frances Schafer and Jared Hohns will join advisory committee chair Cr Ross Cardillo in leading preparations for next year’s event, following the departure of the six official members after the 2025 race.

In noting the approval of the new members, Mayor Angela Toppin said the committee may “coopt additional people to assist with planning and implementation of certain aspects of the race and it may call on people to volunteer to assist with the actual running of the race”.

Cr Cardillo said the committee was a small group which was there to advise, and it “would certainly be more workable”.
