New refuelling facility to boost aviation
A NEW aviation refuelling facility will be established at the Tom Gilmore Aviation Industrial Park after a tender was awarded to World Fuel Services (Australia) by Mareeba Shire Council.

The long-term lease site, which is for a 70m x 10m area, will provide enough space for future expansion to meet the growing needs of the community, according to a council spokesperson.
Currently there is only one airport refuelling facility in operation, at the eastern end of the Mareeba Aerodrome.
“The new facility is intended to be the only facility at the Tom Gilmore Mareeba Aviation Industrial Precinct on the western side of the aerodrome,” a council spokesperson said.
“Together, the two facilities will provide complementary services to each other and to the wider region.”
The new facility would be developed and managed by World Fuel Services and “will help drive continued growth at the Mareeba Aerodrome”.
“(It) will strengthen fuel supply in the region, helping to support essential services such as emergency operations, medical care flights and rural fire-fighting,” the council spokesperson said.
Three submissions were provided to council for the tender, with World Fuel Aviation awarded the project for $20/m2 for the lease site (incl GST).
Details about the design and construction of the facility will be finalised as the project progresses.
