Mareeba golfer Anthony Mete won the recent Gordonvale Classic with two rounds of 73.

Two solid rounds of 73 over both days saw the Mareeba golfer claim the A Grade Nett Winner on Saturday and the A Grade Gross Winner on Sunday, which was enough for him to take the glory in the Overall Men’s Gross category.

“Yeah I was pretty much just hitting the ball well and was able to make a few putts,” he said.

“I was a little disappointed after not performing better at our Mareeba Open and Classic where I wasn’t able to put together two rounds so it was satisfying to play good, consistent golf at Gordonvale.”

Mete is also the club captain at Mareeba, which is a committee roll that involves organising competitions and events and leading Mareeba’s A Grade Pennants team.

Mareeba Golf Club president Kirra Kurumaji said seeing members succeed was one of the best parts about being involved with the club.

“Their achievements reflect the hard work they put in, but they also shine a light on the strength of our community here at Mareeba,” he said.

“When someone like Anthony, who gives so much of his time, energy, and passion to the club, performs well, it means even more. He’s not just a talented golfer, he’s a valued member of our team, a contributor behind the scenes, and someone who genuinely lifts the people around him.

“We couldn’t be prouder of his outstanding achievement and hope our members continue to experience success on course that will help to inspire the next generation of junior golfers in our area.”
