The move to night works follows a successful trial in November 2025, which resulted in shorter delays and reduced impacts on the community.

The quarterly maintenance and inspection program ensures the Barron River bridge remains safely in operation until a new bridge can be built.

The works will occur between 9pm and 4am each day until 27 February.

The bridge will operate as single lane over the four weeks between 9pm and 4am. For the final two weeks (16-27 February) short, intermittent full closures will be needed.

Meanwhile, short-term scheduled night closures (9pm to 4am, Sunday to Thursday nights) will be required on Kuranda Range Road for a period from 15 February until the end of March.

Traffic will be let through once in each direction at midnight (12am). There are no scheduled night closures on Friday and Saturday nights.
