Atherton and Rovers were able to get a full match in at Loder Park, Atherton on Saturday, however the home side fell short by just 39 runs. Over in Mareeba, heavy rain once again interrupted play, but Mareeba were unable to pull it together to chase down an adjusted score.

ATHERTON

Atherton hosted the Rovers at the weekend, and after winning the toss they elected to bowl first.

Rovers got off to a steady start, slowly tallying up runs on the board. Until batsman Dayne Margiotta took to the crease for an impressive stint, notching up 84 runs off 78 balls, including eight 4s and two 6s.

Atheron bowlers Seppe Barletta and Tom Boorman both fared well, taking two wickets each in their eight overs. While Riley Lennon, Matthew Coleman, and Cam Davis picked up a wicket each.

Rovers finished their innings all out for 161 runs.

Opening batsmen Cam Davis and Alex Nasser kicked things off for the home side in the second innings, but after a short stint from Davis, Brendan Nasser took to the crease.

Alex went on to score 22 runs off 44 balls including three 4s, while Brendan notched up a handy 39 off 59, including five 4s.

Captain Tom Boorman had himself a good hit out with the bat, scoring 29 from 31 including three 4s. The remaining Atherton batsmen couldn’t get the job done, however, with each one scoring in the single digits.

Atherton were all out for 122 runs after 33.2 overs.

MAREEBA

The Mareeba Bandits faced up against a challenging, second-placed Mulgrave side at Borzi Park at the weekend. After winning the toss, the home side elected to bowl.

Mulgrave opening batsman and local talent, Rhys Johnston, showed just why he is an up-and-coming sensation after posting 113 runs off 104 balls, including eight 4s and three 6s.

Middle-order batsman Jake Roach also had a heavy hand in his team’s success, scoring 61 from 47, including five 4s and three 6s.

Young Mareeba bowler Kye Harris took two wickets in his five overs, while Brendan Payne, Tyler Misener, and Ross Ferguson found a wicket each.

Heavy rain made things difficult for the Bandits batsmen after Mulgrave finished 5/207 in 32 overs. A rain-adjusted score was calculated and Mareeba was given a target of 184 runs in 26 overs.

Opening batsman Tyler Misener got his team off to a solid start, notching up 29 runs off 56 balls, including four 4s, while Greg Misener managed 23 from 42, also with four 4s.

Captain Brendan Falvo also fared well, finishing 24-not-out off 40 balls, including a four. After their 26 overs, the Bandits were 6/94 – 90 runs shy of their target.

This Saturday, Atherton will host Norths at Loder Park from 12.30pm, while the Bandits will travel to Innisfail to take on the Cyclones.
