Deputy Mayor and Transport Advisory Committee chair Lenore Wyatt said the BDR was bereft of toilets, rest stops and other facilities for travellers.

“If you want to go up the PDR, which is the Peninsula Development Road, we’ve got rest stops we’ve got toilets, things like that,” she told a council meeting.

“If you want to go out to Mt Garnet or Mt Surprise, there are rest stops.

“We don’t have anything like that on that remote road which connects us to Kowanyama.”

Cr Wyatt said rest stops would be “one of the things we’re pushing for”.

Mayor Angela Toppin had also written to the transport minister on the matter.
