Oak Forest Road bridge closures

THE Barron River Bridge on Oak Forest Road will be temporarily closed next month for essential refurbishment and bridge strengthening.

The existing timber structure has reached the end of its service life, and the works are necessary to ensure the long-term safety and reliability of the bridge.

Mareeba Shire Council said a temporary bridge would be provided to reduce the overall time residents will need to detour through Mona Mona.

Vehicles will be redirected via Armstrong Road, Mona Mona Road, and Black Mountain Road.

Full bridge closure begins on Tuesday, 7-9 October to dismantle the bridge. The temporary bridge will be open between closures, from 10–24 October, with the final bridge closure for the bridge reassembly, will be between 25–27 October 2025.
