Open a great success
THE Mareeba Golf Club was buzzing with activity as more than 150 players contested the club’s biggest annual event recently.

Fine weather and a wonderfully-presented course made for a great Steggles Mareeba Open in 2026, which attracted 156 golfers from far and wide.
But when it was all said and done, Home Hill Golf Club’s Scott Sibson and Cairns Golf Club’s Chloe Pratley were named the Men’s and Women’s Open Champions respectively.
Sibson finished just two strokes ahead of his fellow clubman, Craig O’Keefe, while Pratley finished a very comfortable eight strokes ahead of Half Moon Bay Golf Club’s (Yorkeys Knob) Cecily Atkinson.
Mareeba Golf Club president Kirra Kurumaji said the weekend was full of great competition and he was thrilled with the success of the event.
“The Steggles Mareeba Open was a fantastic weekend of golf, highlighted by outstanding performances from our champions, Chloe and Scott, and tremendous support from players across the region,” he said.
“Our course was presented beautifully thanks to the dedication of greenskeeper Karl Krauss and our hardworking volunteers who pushed through challenging conditions in the lead up to the event.
“We’re also incredibly grateful to the Lions Club of Mareeba for keeping everyone well-fed throughout the weekend. The atmosphere was exceptional and we’re proud to have hosted another successful Open that reflects the strength and spirit of our golfing community.”
