Parks to get pool funds

TWO parks in Mt Garnet will be upgraded with funds originally awarded to Tablelands Regional Council to repair the town’s public swimming pool.

The council made the decision not to repair the pool, instead demolishing it last year, but the $500,000 from the State Government that was allocated to fix it will now be used to undertake improvements in Dines Park and Anniversary Park.

Council officers conducted an online and in-person community survey in Mt Garnet last year to determine what the community would like to see the funds used for.

A community meeting was held on 5 February to enable officers to further refine and validate the community’s highest priorities.

In Dines Park, works will involve the levelling, resurfacing and fencing of the cricket field; resurfacing the cricket pitch with astroturf, installation of additional power for events; plumbing repairs and roof replacement to the amenity block; and the installation of a new shade shelter with a picnic table.

In Anniversary Park, works will involve the renewal of electrical switchboard and underground cables; the resurfacing of the tennis and basketball courts including line marking; the installation of lighting over the green space; and the upgrade of existing basketball court lighting.

New multi-sport goals and posts for the basketball court will also be done as well as the installation of outdoor exercise equipment.
