Pest weed field day
WET Tropic Soilcare (WETS) will conduct a field day to share peer to peer learning on weeds in Ravenshoe on 26 July from 10am to 3pm.
Participants will learn the difference between the various species and how to use them to do their job.
They also will hear about using weeds to control other weeds in a shared local experience of learning.
Presenters for the day are Adam Collins and Wayne Rankine.
“Most farmers and gardeners will notice that certain weeds appear either after heavy or continual rain or the reverse when there are long periods of dry conditions,” a WETS spokesperson said.
“These conditions are more obvious when the soil has been disturbed and is laying bare during the above-mentioned conditions.
“Nature does not like bare soil and some seeds are able to patiently wait for years before they rear their heads.
“If a crop is planted or seedlings put in the soil at the same time the weed seeds germinate, you have a problem.”
