A media statement from QPS outlined actions being taken including that detectives from the Tablelands Criminal Investigation Branch were actively investigating youth-related offences, and that juvenile off enders were being managed through the Bail Compliance Program which involves bail and curfew checks and management of non-compliance if required.

Since July 1, the Bail Compliance Team had conducted more than 1000 compliance checks, all of which have been undertaken during operational shifts.

The statement said Mareeba police were part of a Complex Case Management Group who met with youth justice, health and education departments to better manage at-risk and recidivist youth off enders.

The Mareeba PCYC is actively engaged in running nine programs with “at risk” and vulnerable children in Mareeba.

A Mareeba Task Force was established with the assistance of Mayor Angela Toppin, Mareeba Shire Council, local businesses and multiple government agencies including police from the Tablelands Patrol Group, to work together to address focus issues.

Officers from the Tablelands Patrol Group were also working directly with the council in a collaborative approach towards curbing anti-social behaviour and youth off ending, the statement said.
