Prison package seized
OFFICERS at Lotus Glen Correctional Centre have thwarted an attempt to smuggle several packets of tobacco, rolling papers and a mobile phone into the low-security prison.
The officers discovered around 300g of tobacco in six pouches as well as 10 packets of cigarette papers and a new mobile phone inside a black plastic bag near the perimeter fence during a routine patrol.
Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) Acting Commissioner Jon Peach had plenty of praise for the officers’ vigilance in finding the products which are all prohibited in prisons around the State.
“QCS has zero tolerance for contraband and those who attempt to bring it into our correctional centre can expect to be dealt with to the full extent of the law,” he said.
“A range of measures are employed to intercept and seize contraband, including the vigilance and commitment of officers in their dynamic operational roles to maintain the safety, security and good order of centres.”
Prisoners who attempted to bring in contraband into correctional centres faced additional penalties including it impacting on parole applications.
