Race day full of fashion and fun
JOCKEYS, trainers, punters and fashionistas will be flocking to Mareeba Turf Club this weekend for one of the biggest meetings in the local racing calendar.
Local horse racing enthusiasts will be trackside this Saturday as some of the best in the region go head-to-head for the prestigious Mareeba Cup and Mareeba Bracelet.
Similarly, off the track, the competition will be hot to take out the honours in the Fashions on the Field, with participants dressing to impress for the “Spring Fling” theme.
With eight categories on offer including Stylish Lady (ages 19-45), Classic Lady (45+), Couples, Open Gents and two categories for youngsters, the competition should be a visual spectacular.
The day will offer heaps of fun things for the whole family, including the opportunity to join Dance4Life and learn some fun new dance moves during the band breaks.
For the first time, patrons will be able to sample the new shade pavilion where they can enjoy the live entertainment, hot food and drinks from the licensed bar.
On the track, punters will be hoping to pick the winner of the Mareeba Bracelet, to be run over 1123m, and the Mareeba Cup over 1800m.
Bookies will be onsite to take their bets.

Later this month, locals will have the chance to see the Melbourne Cup trophy at a special event on 14 September.
There will be two opportunities to view the Cup and get a picture with the iconic trophy.
From 7am-9am, a BBQ breakfast will be held at the Mareeba Turf Club where patrons will be able to hear from Robbie Dolan, the winning jockey of the 2024 Melbourne Cup aboard the 80-1 outsider, Knight’s Choice, in a thrilling photo finish at Flemington.
A gold coin donation from attendees will support the Black Cockatoo Foundation.
Then, between 10am and 12 noon, the Cup will be at the Mareeba Heritage Centre, where for a gold coin donation, you can have your photo taken with the Cup which weighs over 1.8kg and contains almost 60 ounces of 18-carat gold.
