Reds Reserves claim grand final in club first
THE Tablelands Reds Reserve Grade have stunned the FNQ Rugby Union league after claiming a grand final win just two years into competition.
The Reds took down the Penrhyn Sharks 57-47 in a thrilling match at Barlow Park, Cairns at the weekend, marking the first ever grand final win for the local club.
Tries for the Tablelands team came from Vaviano Busutaka, Jack Savou (2), Ilisoni Qaranqio, William Tuisovivi, Mesake Vakalala, Lemeki Rokomasi, Aminiasi Savou, and Poasa Ravea, with Vereimi Buka converting 6/9 goals.
In addition to taking out the grand final, the Reds Reserves also finished the season as minor premiers with an astonishing 15-0 win record, compared to Barron River Bulls’ 5-2-8 record in second place.
Following the win, Vereimi Buka was named Player of the Season, Vaviano Busutaka earned Top Try Scorer, Ilisoni Qaranqio was named Highest Points Scorer, while Player of the Grand Final went to Watson McGoon.
