Riding on for cardiac care
TWO brothers will be tackling a grueling 333km cycle in September as they participate in the 14th annual QSuper Cardiac Challenge, all in their mother’s memory.
TWO brothers will be tackling a grueling 333km cycle in September as they participate in the 14th annual QSuper Cardiac Challenge, all in their mother’s memory.
The annual QSuper Cardiac Challenge will begin on September 25 as teams of cyclist’s tackle long journey from Cairns to Cooktown ending on September 27.
Brothers Nick and Peter Lyngcoln will be taking on the challenge with the support of friends and their brother Daniel under the banner, Annie’s Army.
Annie Lyngcoln spent some time in the Cairns Cardiac Unit receiving care before she tragically passed away in 2017.
Peter said the exceptional support and care Annie received during her time in hospital motivates him and his brother to participate in the challenge each year.
“The reason why this year is our fourth taking part in the challenge is that our values are so aligned,” he said.
“We know all of the funds we raise go directly to improving cardiac care facilities… the initial driver for us was the healthcare workers who were there 24/7 helping Mum.
“The facilities and care that they provided got her to the point where she almost pulled through and for that extra time, we are forever grateful.”
The total of this years fundraising money will be going towards a ventilator for cardiology, a lung function testing system and an endobronchial ultrasound system for respiratory care.
