Roosters humming
THE Atherton Roosters celebrated a solid 40-12 over the Mossman Sharks at the weekend, while the Mareeba Gladiators were thrashed 46-4 by Cairns Brothers.
ROOSTERS vs SHARKS
THE Roosters travelled to Mossman to take on the Sharks at the weekend, with young Atherton winger Tom Cuda finding himself a hattrick in his team’s 40-12 win over the home side.
Other try scorers included centre Tyrone Tusa, prop Dujuayne Sua-Bacon, and winger Adam Ingui.
In total, the Roosters outscored the Sharks seven tries to two, with five-eighth Regan Herd’s goalkicking remaining a big asset for the team – kicking six from seven conversions.
The Roosters Women also found a triumphant win, defeating their Mossman counterparts 48-22. Hooker Kimberley Bryant and second-rower Lexeen Mathieson both found doubles for the game.
Meanwhile, the Roosters Reserve Grade defeated the Sharks Reserves 24-16 to find their first win of the season.
GLADIATORS vs BROTHERS
THE Gladiators faced off against a fired-up Brothers outfit at the weekend and were strongly overcome 46-4.
The team’s only points came in the 16th minute of the game through winger Loui Ganaia. The Gladiators Reserves put up a good fight but couldn’t get away with the win, going down 38-28, while the Under 19s lost 34-14.
ROUND 5 – ANZAC DAY
This weekend both local clubs will host Anzac Day games, with the Roosters coming up against Cairns Kangaroos at Mungalli Ck Dairy Stadium, Atherton, and the Gladiators taking on the Innisfail Leprechauns at Davies Park, Mareeba.
In Atherton, the Roosters Women will get things underway from 1.30pm, followed by the Under 19s at 3pm, Reserve Grade at 4.30pm, and A Grade at 6pm.
In Mareeba, it will be the Under 19s kicking off first from 3pm, followed by Reserve Grade at 4.30pm, and A Grade at 6pm.
