THE Atherton Roosters A Grade squad were simply outclassed by a dominant Cairns Brothers outfit in the major semi final at the weekend.

The Brothers side showed why they’re the team to beat and why they have three consecutive premierships under their belt, outscoring the home side seven tries to two for a final score of 38-12.

The Roosters were kept scoreless until late in the second half and only found their first try in the 69th minute (centre Brad Hammond) and their second in the final minute of the game (prop James Clark).

“We weren’t good enough and we were just beaten by a better side,” A Grade coach Joel Riethmuller said.

“I wasn’t happy with our defence, we were a bit off. But at the end of the day, they turned up to play and exposed some of our weaknesses.

“So, we either learn from it, or we won’t be playing after this weekend.”

This weekend, the Roosters will take on the Southern Suburbs in the preliminary final. The Suburbs found a dominant win against the Ivanhoe Knights at the weekend, running straight through their defensive line in a try scoring frenzy to secure a 56-6 win.

“They’ll turn up, try and bash us and probably try and expose our edges a bit,” Riethmuller said.

“But I think we’ve just got to focus on us this week and fix our defence.”
