Saving and chasing goals
A YOUNG footballer from Atherton with a knack for goalkeeping is fundraising to attend a specialist camp in Spain early next year and is seeking support from his community.

Archie Evans is the Atherton Eagles Men’s Division 1 goalkeeper at just 17 years old.
His skill is further highlighted with four years training at the Professional Goalkeeper Tuition (PGT) in Cairns, a specialist goalkeeping training service that helps players refine their skills and technique, and he is now part of the advanced group.
Archie is now trying to fundraise to attend a specialist camp at Valencia CF in Spain, a professional football club in the La Liga league, which is said to be home to some of the best goalkeeping coaches in the world.
“It would mean the world to me to able to attend this camp,” the youngster said.
“I’ve been trying to go for a few years but there’s never been enough numbers and so it never went ahead.
“I’ve been training specifically in goalkeeping with PGT in Cairns once a week for the past four years, plus club training which I’ve been doing for seven years.
“It’s been my dream to become a professional goalkeeper for the last five years and that’s why I started training with PGT.”
If Archie raises enough funds, he will attend the camp in January next year where he will also get a tour of Mestalla Stadium (the home of Valencia CF) and get to watch a La Liga match.
