Scarecrow Festival brings the fun
THE Atherton Showgrounds will come alive this weekend, with the Tolga Scarecrow Festival set to deliver plenty of fun with dozens of activities and competitions.

The festival, held every second year, is a true community event centred around the popular scarecrow competition, whereby individuals, organisations, schools, and businesses vie for the best scarecrow.
There is also a scarecrow/farming-themed dress-up competition with prizes for the “young and young at heart”. Participants will strut their stuff in a parade from 6.15pm-6.30pm before judges announce the winners.
Attendees will have plenty to keep them busy, with a wide array of market and fundraising stalls, as well as several food and drink options and live entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.
For the kids, there’ll be a jumping castle and some old-fashioned games from 4.30pm such as sack races, avo and spoon races, three-legged races, horseshoe throwing, haybale rolling, and sugar cane javelin.
Event organiser Tamara Taylor said the event wouldn’t happen without the support of the community and businesses who contribute to making it happen.
“It’s about bringing the community together and taking pride in our community to celebrate where the Tablelands has come from,” she said.
The Scarecrow Festival will be held this Saturday in Merriland Hall at the Atherton Showgrounds from 4pm-8pm. Entry to the event is just $3.
