School’s shave for cause
JUST under $5000 was raised at Atherton State High’s World’s Greatest Shave event recently, with students relishing the opportunity to shave off a teacher’s long-grown moustache.

The school raised a total of $4949 at the event, which raises money for the Leukaemia Foundation. The day saw 10 students and two teachers take part, with many other students colouring their hair in support.
The two teachers, Mr Herrings and Mr Meekcoms, ingeniously raised their money through raffles which gave one fortunate student the honour to shave their hair.
Mr Meekcoms elected to shave his head, while Mr Herrings chose to shave off his moustache that he’d been growing for the past 12 years, which was done by raffle winner Darcy Alford.
Money was also raised through student council-run stalls such as cupcakes, hair colouring, and banner painting. However, most of the money was raised by a single student, Jack Zappala, who incredibly raised $3345.
So far this year, around 11,000 Australians have participated in the World’s Greatest Shave, already raising over $8.1 million to further life-saving research and support for families facing blood cancer.
