Scouts step up to save units
TWO young cubs from Mareeba Scouts have taken it upon themselves to help drive membership for their den, with fears a lack of participation could soon force units to start shutting down.

Mareeba locals Jaxon (10) and Rhys Bolton (8) have stepped up on behalf of their fellow Scouts with a mission to find at least 4-5 adult leaders.
“We need to have members of our community interested in being helpers or leaders for our unit to continue to run. If we don’t find anyone soon, units will have to be shut down,” the boys said.
“We have been members of the Mareeba Scout Den for about three years now. We go on so many adventures like hiking, camping, kayaking, abseiling, volunteering and so much more.
“It is our dream to one day meet Bear Grills while we receive the Kings Scout Badge in England. This year is very important to Scouts worldwide, as it’s our 110 years of Scouting anniversary, which we call Founders Day.
“We love being Scouts and we would love to invite everyone to our Founders Day camp, which will be held in Atherton as we join our neighbouring group. Please come and experience Scouts.”
The Founders Day camp will be held this Sunday from 9am-12pm at the Atherton Scout Den, located at 14 Robert Street. For those interested in joining Scouts, becoming a leader, or attending Founders Day, contact Zoe on 0448 680 445 or email dc@tablelands.scoutsqld.com.au
