Sessions to be better connected

MORE than 11,000 homes and businesses around the region have had their NBN upgraded and locals are being encouraged to come and find out how beneficial the upgrades are at several planned community sessions.

Upgrades to the NBN network have included full fibre to 4,980 homes and businesses in Kuranda and Mareeba and 6,383 homes and businesses in Atherton, Malanda, Ravenshoe, Tolga and Yungaburra.

Upgrades to the fixed wireless network have also been undertaken.

Upgrading to full fibre delivers a range of benefits for customers when compared to copper connections, including smoother video calls, enhanced streaming, quicker response times for gaming, and the ability to connect more devices simultaneously – including smart TVs, home security systems, and smart home technology.

To upgrade to full fibre, eligible new and existing customers need to place an order for an eligible high-speed plan (at least 100 Mbps download) through an internet service provider.

A significant enhancement to the fixed wireless network has also been rolled out. Speeds have been boosted with fixed wireless home fast now available to about 97% of the expanded fixed wireless footprint, and is expected to offer peak wholesale speeds of about 200-250/8-20 Mbps.

To help customers understand and take advantage of the completed upgrades, the NBN local team will be available at the following sessions: 18 May at 8.30am-11am at The Big Hat Café, 276 Byrnes Street, Mareeba; 18 May at 12pm-2pm at the Crew House Café, 35 Raleigh Street, Dimbulah; 20 May at 9am-11.30am at the AHoY Molloy Coffee Shop, 8 Main Street, Mount Molloy; and 25 May from 9am-11am at the Kuranda Community Precinct Room and 1pm to 3pm at the Mareeba Library.
