Shop Tablelands gift card given the green light.
The Atherton Tablelands Chamber of Commerce (ATCC) was recently successful in receiving a grant from the Tablelands Regional Council (TRC) Economic Development Fund to introduce a Shop Tablelands Gift Card.
The Atherton Tablelands Chamber of Commerce (ATCC) was recently successful in receiving a grant from the Tablelands Regional Council (TRC) Economic Development Fund to introduce a Shop Tablelands Gift Card.
The Shop Tablelands Gift Card will be a plastic style EFTPOS card, that can be loaded with any value. The only difference with the new card is that it will be part of a closed-loop style program where the card can only be bought and redeemed at participating businesses within the TRC shire.
President of the ATCC Bree Hargraves said the aim of the card is to provide a simple and effective model to keep money in the local economy while providing flexibility and choice to card recipients.
“We recently received funding from the TRC to bring the Tablelands Gift Card to reality,” she said.
“We also eventually hope to include Mareeba, but this stage we will be concentrating on the Atherton Shire.
“We will also be working with Malanda and Ravenshoe Chambers to ensure that their chamber members across the entire region are included in this opportunity.
“We’re also inviting the Herberton and Yungaburra business associations to be involved.”
Bree said that the idea came from seeing the success of a similar card in the Hinchinbrook Shire which was launched in November, so far putting approximately $27,000 back into the local community.
“The good news is that the gift cards will be bought and then spent in local businesses instead of going to a multinational company,” she said.
“By getting involved it helps support local jobs and businesses and keeps the money in the local economy.
“Any business is able to participate, all they need to have is EFTPOS facilities and it will also be no cost to the store.”
