Show wins set stud up for open day
WITH two exceptional agricultural shows completed, Telpara Hills is turning its attention to the Tablelands Better Beef Open Day later this month when visitors will have the opportunity to inspect the stud’s cattle alongside leading breeders Gadgarra Murray Greys and Tallangalook Santas and Angus.
Following one of the most successful show campaigns in the stud’s history, Telpara Hills says it remains committed to breeding structurally sound, productive, high-performance cattle suited to commercial beef producers while continuing to showcase the quality of Far North Queensland genetics on the show circuit.
Telpara Hills achieved outstanding success at both the Malanda and Atherton Shows, culminating in multiple Supreme Championships, Grand Championships, and Interbreed titles.
With more than 170 cattle entered across multiple breeds at Malanda, competition was among the strongest seen outside of south-east Queensland.
“Our region consistently produces some of Australia’s highest-quality beef cattle, and the standard at Malanda was exceptional,” a Telpara Hills spokesperson said.
“Winning under those conditions is something we’re incredibly proud of.”
At the Malanda event, the standout performer was Telpara Hills Primemover 15W7, who claimed Grand Champion Bull of Show, Champion Tropical Breed Bull, Junior Champion Tropical Breed Bull, and First Place Tropical Bull (12-15 months).
Equally impressive was Telpara Hills Miss Benchmark 920V9, who was awarded Supreme Champion Stud Beef Exhibit, Grand Champion Female of Show, Champion Tropical Breed Female and Senior Champion Tropical Breed Female.
Across the Tropical Breed classes, Telpara Hills recorded numerous class wins and championships, including Champion and Reserve Junior Tropical Bulls, Senior Champion Tropical Bull, Champion and Reserve Junior Tropical Females, Reserve Calf Champion Tropical Female, and Champion Tropical Female.
Just days later, Telpara Hills made its first appearance at the Atherton Show and once again dominated the competition.
Despite exhibiting only five younger animals, the stud captured both of the show’s highest individual honours - Supreme Champion Bull was Telpara Hills Primemover 15W7, and Supreme Champion Female was Telpara Hills Miss Ultimate 541V70.
Primemover 15W7 continued his remarkable run by also claiming Grand Champion Tropical Bull, Junior Champion Tropical Bull, and First Place – Tropical Bull (12-15 months).
Other major winners included Royal Mac 541V98 – Reserve Junior Champion Tropical Bull; Miss Trigger 924W6 – Calf Champion Tropical Female; Miss Blackwater 541W39 – Junior Champion Tropical Female; and Miss Ultimate 541V70 – Senior Champion and Grand Champion Tropical Female.
“We’re incredibly fortunate to have such an amazing team behind these cattle. Every ribbon represents countless hours of breeding decisions, feeding, preparation and teamwork,” a spokesperson said.
With the annual shows now over, Telpara Hills is looking forward to the eighth annual Tablelands Better Beef Open Day on Sunday 23 August.
The stud will be one of 11 in the region opening their gates for the day between 9am and 4.30pm.
Next month, Telpara Hills will again hold their on-property bull and female sale at the bull depot at 157 Marane Rd, Tolga.
Over 100 bulls and 40 heifers will be offered spanning three breeds, offering Brangus, UltraBlacks and Angus for the first time in the stud’s history. The sale day is on 19 September.
