Silent auction fundraiser for RFDS
ONE of the biggest fundraisers for the Royal Flying Doctor Service will be held in Atherton early next month.

A silent auction featuring beautiful artistic works, handcrafted coffee tables, unique jewellery items, and much more will be held at the Atherton International Club on 8 August from 10am to 4pm.
The event is being staged by the RFDS Near and Far Auxiliary which raises funds for the vital service for both Cairns and Townsville bases. Funds are used to purchase medical equipment and support clinics.
“We hold a lot of fundraisers for the RFDS like street stalls, raffles, garage sales and at the Field Days, but this is the first time we have had a silent auction,” Auxiliary president Brenda Agius said.
“There are so many beautiful items – some of the very special items have reserve prices but many do not so we are hoping to get a lot of people along to bid on the items on display.”
Among the pieces to be auctioned off are 10 paintings, two beautifully crafted coffee tables, jewellery featuring opals and pearls, a special patchwork quilt, pottery, toys and a host of arts and craft items.
“There is so much on offer so we are encouraging people to come early and have a look and put their bids in,” Brenda said.
“The event starts at 10am, with bids to be lodged by 2.30pm and the results drawn at 3pm.”
There will also be around 25 market stalls at the event, selling a variety of arts and crafts, with all of them contributing items to the auction. In addition, there will be a children’s craft corner and 100 raffle board.
“We hope we can raise a lot of money for the RFDS and we would like to thank the Atherton International Club for its support in hosting this important fundraiser,” Brenda said.
