MAREEBA’S biggest race of the year is just around the corner as the Mareeba Annuals are set to be held next Saturday, September 4.
In what has been a jampacked year of racing for the Mareeba Turf Club patrons have been inundated with choices for race days with Mareeba picking up numerous meets from other clubs.
Next Saturday however is the mother of all races in Mareeba and the one marked down on everyone’s calendar.
There will be live music, fashions on the field, kids’ entertainment and of course lots and lots of racing with a five-day card scheduled for the day.
Mareeba Turf Club president Alex Malliff said that the annuals are the biggest race on Mareeba’s calendar, and he is looking forward to people coming out to enjoy the day.
“Everything is just a little bit bigger, there are more chairs and tables to set out and more grog to order,” he said.
“More people create a bigger atmosphere and that’s the way we like it.
“The annuals are the towns grand final so to speak.”
