ATHERTON’S Paul Nasser posted another century and backed up with the ball, taking out Man of the Match honours in a close Cricket Far North 40 over match against Rovers at Griffiths Park on Saturday.

The grand final rematch went down to the wire with Atherton awarded a 1 run win despite some controversy in the finishing stages.

Sent in to bat by Rovers, Atherton's batsmen struggled to settle in.

Paul Nasser shouldered the load, forming a 57 run partnership with Will Nasser and a 64 run partnership with Mason Blaney before being trapped in front for 104. Atherton's innings closed 9-215.

Rover's got off to a great attacking start punishing Atherton's bowlers for anything loose.

Mick Salerno snared opener Bobby Brix and Pete Sceresini dismissed dangerman Josh Chadwick, before Paul Nasser and Hadyn Steele slowed the run rate to keep Atherton in the game.

A couple of run-outs had the game in the balance with a run-a-ball required for the final 12 overs.

The tight chase continued right down to 3 off the final ball, the match was deemed over when Rovers completed one run.

Next match is on October 30 – Atherton v Barron at Loder Park.

RESULT: Atherton 9-215 (P Nasser 104, W Nasser 24, M Blaney 20) Def. Rovers 4-214 (P Sceresini 1-22, M Salerno 1-51)
