After winning the toss and electing to bat Atherton found it tough going and lost early wickets to Barron's seamers.

Pete Sceresini 27 and Paul Nasser 37 worked hard for their starts but could not lift the run rate in a slow scoring affair.

Tommy Boorman brought some respectability to the score hitting 51 runs off 60 balls in a 72 run partnership with Nasser, and the tail added a valuable 25 runs to close the innings 7-183.

Atherton's opening pacemen Luke Parnell and Paul Nasser got the team away to a good start with Nasser knocking over Barron's one and two cheaply in a tidy opening spell.

The game continued to hang in the balance with the scores almost level through to the last session. Dan Parnell took 3 wickets, Chris Adams bowled well 1-16 and Lachy Hollitt mounted scoreboard pressure bowling a great spell of 6 overs for 13 runs.

The game went down to the wire but Atherton paid for a missed chance in the field allowing Barron's Adam Trewin to bat the innings and hit the winning runs in the 47th over stranded not out on 99. Atherton's next match is 8 January against Rovers at Griffiths Park, Cairns.
