BOXING fans from all across the region will be able to get ringside this weekend to see some hail making action with one of the regions first nights.

Brydes Boxing Gym is hosting Boxers at War 6 at the Mareeba Turf Club with boxers coming from all over Queensland from Home Hill all the way to Thursday Island.

With a capacity of 500 at the Turf Club the night is expected to be a big one with nearly 20 fights scheduled including two title fights from Bryde’s Boxing Gym.

Owner and Coach of Bryde’s Boxing Gym Wayne Bryde is very excited to get this night off the ground after their first one was cancelled earlier in the year.

“It’s good to get these boys a fight because they’ve trained so hard and then for them to get shut off it mentally breaks them,” he said.

“They’re physically fit, mentally prepared and ready to go.”

Matthew Carrol is the main fight card for the night, an Australian Champion and is up for one of the belt fights on the night.

“It should be a good fight I’m definitely keen and a little bit nervous,” he said.

“I’m always really confident when I jump in the ring and I get into the zone.

“Just listen to what coach says in the corner he always brings me out with a win.”

Xavier Richardson is the defending his current belt and title from his Home Hill contender.

“I’m known within Mareeba, Townsville, all the far north and I’m just going show them what boxing’s about,” he said.

“I am feeling the best I’ve felt physically and mentally.

“I can’t lose it in front of the home crowd, I have got to show them what it’s all about.”

The third fighter from Bryde’s Boxing Gym that will be fighting is Lachlan McWaters and this Saturday will mark his debut match.

Hailing from Perth Lachlan has been in boxing gyms getting ready for fights but could never step in the ring before he moved.

“It should be a good fight I’m keen for a slugfest to be honest,” he said.

“I’m not really nervous I’ve done a lot more training than anyone else really does for their first fight after moving from Perth.

“I’ve been raring to go for a while.”

The fight night takes place this Saturday with the gates opening at 4.30pm with a 5pm start.
