DESPITE missing two of their usual starting five, the Council team continually had answers for the competition favourites, Red Devils, in a hotly contested match.

It was 68 to 54 at the siren, with Brennan Collis able to let his game do much of the talking in a team that at times did far too much talking to officials.

Red Devils were far from saints themselves, and the game had an ugliness the likes not seen in 2021. In terms of positives, Craig Farley continually placed his body in front of traffic, taking a pair of charges.

Zayd Myrteza and David McGrath remained level-headed for the Devils despite serious offensive pressure from Council.

Council captain Ben Washington played well but clearly has his hands full with a roster charged with enthusiasm for points, but a sudden taste for back chat.

In the earlier game, Stingrays 83 convincingly accounted for Ballers 56. Ballers seemingly fixated on playing in the minor semi at season end.

In contrast, Warren Thomson has the Stingrays coasting with the younger guard combinations causing Ballers major headaches.

Stanley Bustard announced his range from the three-point arc, Alfred Passi ripped down boards and Zemekis Hunter delivered a barrage of fast breaks.

In counter, the youth of the Ballers, Peter Dipede and Ethan Cummings face a major challenge in learning to scramble back effectively before these two teams meet again.

It was clear that an aging guard, Brendan Ebner looked slow for Ballers, especially against the magic of Hunter in the open court.
