Courts set for tennis open day

NEW and returning tennis players are being encouraged to attend the Mareeba Tennis Club’s open day this Saturday, January 30.

NEW and returning tennis players are being encouraged to attend the Mareeba Tennis Club’sopen day this Saturday, January 30. 

Tennis fans old and new are welcome with free training andadvice offered by the experienced members of the MareebaTennis Club. 

Starting at 9am, the day willconsist of free activities including ANZ Tennis Hot Shots,coaching, free play, prizes and more before finishing off around 12:30pm. 

Mareeba Tennis Club President Mark Keating said that itwill be a great day out for the whole family. 

“People can come along and check out the game of tennis,” he said.

“We are more than happy to give them a racket and put them on the court. 

“We will find them someone to hit with or introduce them to a coach and talk to them about how they might get involved in the sport.”

Mr Keating is also hoping that it might bring existingplayers back onto the courts who have moved to Mareeba or stopped playing. 

“Not just new players but people that have played beforein other towns or even in Mareeba,” he said. 

“Try to get them back into the sport that they gave up for various reasons. 

“We always look forward to this day because we are keen to get more people into the sport of tennis.” 

The Mareeba Tennis Club is located on Chewko Road in Mareeba and racquets will be provided for those who do not have their own.
