THE Mareeba Old Players and Supporters (MOPS) club have received some significant financial help courtesy of Mareeba Toyota as they were donated a signed Cowboys jersey along with other merchandise to auction later in the year.

Fundraising for MOPS began at the weekend’s Tableland Cup clash between the Mareeba Gladiators and Atherton Roosters at Davies Park, and President Rob Miller said the money raised from fundraising efforts as well as the auction will go towards growing the club along with MOPS attire that will be available for purchase for prospective members.

Miller said he would like to recognise those who have contributed in allowing MOPS to get off the ground.

“I would like to thank Andrew from Mareeba Toyota, Tablelands Fertiliser and Mareeba Transport, they have all committed significant funding and their much-needed financial help will go a long way in ensuring MOPS can grow,” he said.

“Once we are up on our feet and doing better financially, we will then be looking at ways we can get involved with the community ourselves and lend a hand where it’s needed.”

Key MOPS events coming up include the official launch on July 20 at the Mareeba Gladiators vs Cairns Brothers game at home.

In October, with a date to be confirmed, they will hold a legends night with ex-Queensland and New South Wales Origin players.

For those interested in joining, it cost $5 to become a MOPS member. Interested individuals are encouraged to attend the MOPS monthly meeting.

For more information regarding MOPS and times and dates of their monthly meetings, contact Rob Miller on 0427 577 931 or Mick Cotter on 0409 056 649.
