Tries to Wane either side of half time, and a crucial third four-pointer in the 60th minute proved the difference with Hunters eventually claiming a five tries to four victory.
However the end result doesn't reflect the closeness of the match with Pride only kicking one conversion from five attempts and scoring one try less than the Hunters.
Pride jumped PNG early with tries to Shawn Bowen (9th minute) and Grant Anderson (15th minute) helping the home side to an early 8-0 lead before the Hunters hit back with two converted tries to lead 12-8 at the main break.
With the match well poised and a solid arm wrestle midway through the second half PNG broke the 16-all deadline in the 60th minute through Wane’s third try of the evening. Charlie Simon’s 69th minute try extended PNG’s lead to 24-16 and from there Hunter played the clock down to secure its well-earned and upset 12-point victory.
Pride sits 8th on the ISC ladder on 14 points and eight points adrift of ladder leaders Norths Devils.
The Hunters third win of the season moved them to 11th on the ladder.
