Roosters fly over Seahawks

TWO late tries from Brett Power and Ned Blackman has helped seal a 44-26 win for the Atherton Roosters over the Yarrabah Seahawks in Sunday’s FNQ Rugby League round two first grade premiership match played at Atherton’s Mungalli Creek Dairy Stadium.

The eight tries to five victory got the Roosters 2022 premiership campaign back on track after their round one loss to Innisfail. Four tries in the first half through Jermaine Pedro, Caleb Foster, Ty Grogan and Willem Foster gave the Roosters a 20-10 lead at the break.

A couple of Yarrabah specials including a near length of the field intercept try soon after the restart got the visitors back in the fight to lock the score up at 20 all at the 50th minute.

But to their credit, the home side wasted no time getting back into their work to dominate field position and possession while finding the scoreboard four more times in the run up to the final siren.

Forward Brett Power and centre Willem Foster had strong games with both scoring two tries each in the Roosters count while fullback Ty Grogan was always dangerous in attack.

The Roosters under 18 side remain undefeated in 2022 after downing Yarrabah 58-22 on Sunday after leading 22-12 at the break. In reserve grade, the Roosters lead 12-10 at the break before going onto defeat Yarrabah 28-18.

The Roosters play their round three premiership match against the Mossman Sharks this Saturday night at the Mossman Showground.
