THE Atherton Roosters have fallen to their worst defeat in recent years after going down 44-6 to Cairns Brothers in Sunday’s round two Cairns District Rugby League premiership match at Williams Park.

Atherton are presently carrying a lot of injury concerns in all grades and went into Sundays match minus several of their regular first graders.

Most notable absentee is star forward Graham Clark Jnr who will miss the rest of the year with a shoulder injury which requires surgery in the weeks ahead.

On Sunday, the Roosters struggled in all departments as their error count allowed Brothers to dominate the bulk of the contest and set up a 20-0 lead at the break.

Prop Anthony Curcio’s try soon after the restart looked to spark Atherton for a while before Brothers got back in control and went onto deliver another four unanswered tries.

The Roosters left the field a pretty battered side and now have a week to regroup before their home game with Yarrabah this Saturday night.

Results of other games played over the weekend – Ivan\hoes defeated Suburbs 28-6, Mossman downed Mareeba 35- 26, Innisfail won over Kangaroos 43-14, Edmonton took the points over Yarrabah 36-30
