THE Atherton Roosters were in familiar surroundings when they faced off against Brothers in Saturday nights Cairns District Rugby League premiership match at Atherton’s Mungalli Creek Dairy Stadium.

Player injuries and other commitments are now a continual concern at the Roosters as the club struggles to have their best thirteen on the park each week.

On Saturday, the Roosters were again under powered and in the end went down 36-0 to Brothers.

To their credit the Roosters played with plenty of courage in the first half and did well to stay in the contest and be behind only 12-0 at the break.

The restart wasn't going to be good for the Roosters as they had picked up more injuries in the opening exchanges and were forced to play the final forty minutes without any reserves on the bench.

Brothers went onto score another four unanswered tries and maintain their unbeaten 2021 record.

In the under 18 match, the young Roosters came away 18-12 winners over Brothers after leading 14-0 at the break.

Ryan Gallagher, Denis Scheibel and Flynn Bailey were the Roosters try scorers.

Brothers defeated the Roosters 26-14 in the reserve grade game while Ivanhoes downed the Roosters 44-0 in the ladies match.

The Senior Roosters have a competition bye this weekend and play their next match in Innisfail on Saturday June 5.
