ATHERTON played host to Barron River in the first Cricket Far North limited-overs game of the season at Loder Park on Saturday.

In what has been an interrupted start to the season the Atherton 1st grade welcomed back regulars Tom Boorman, Fred Pittorino and newcomer Matt Bentley to field a strong line-up.

Barron River won the toss and elected to bat. Atherton's opening bowlers didn't give much away and Matt Bentley picked up an early wicket on his Aussie debut, before the spinners came on early and capitalised on the slowish wicket dismissing the visitors for 110 in the 39th over.

Michael Salerno and Dan Parnell brought their winning form back from rep duties, Tom Boorman tied the batsmen up and Paul Nasser picked up wickets with consistent line and length in a good allround bowling effort.

Atherton's chase got off to a shaky start losing 2 early wickets, but a solid innings by Tom Boorman unbeaten on 49, supported by Paul Nasser and Fred Pittorino saw them reach the target in the 25th over to claim a 5 wicket win.

Next game is 2-day match, November 9 and 16, against Mulgrave at Miniecon Gregory Oval after local cricket takes another break for representative matches on November 2 and 3.

RESULT: Atherton 5-111 (T Boorman 49*, F Pittorino 18, P Nasser 16) Def. Barron River 110 (M Salerno 3-32, T Boorman 2-12, P Nasser 2-18, D Parnell 2-18).
