Tablelands Regional Council’s Senior Safety Squad is a popular, multi-agency disaster preparedness education program that was developed with Queensland Police Service, Queensland Fire Department, State Emergency Service, various government agencies and other not- for-profit and community groups.

“The program supports seniors in preparing for, responding to and recovering from natural and other hazards,” Cr Kylie Lang said.

“Participants will take part in a range of activities including first aid, radio communications, bushfire simulation, working with the SES and preparing an emergency kit.

“Some of the hazards include storms, cyclones, floods, electrical safety and bushfires and you’ll hear from emergency services and community organisations.”

The safety session will be held at the Disaster Coordination Centre, 15 Vernon Street, Atherton, from 9.30am-2.30pm on 31 October.

Places are limited so anyone interested should call 1300 362 242 or register at www.trc.qld.gov.au/safety-squad by 23 October.

Morning tea and lunch are provided.
