Sugarcane Bioenergy report on its way
AN inquiry by the Queensland Parliament’s Primary Industries and Resources Committee (PIRC) into Sugarcane Bioenergy opportunities in the state will be concluded ahead of the expected time.

Originally scheduled to conclude in June 2026, the committee has announced that it will now deliver its final report three months early, in March 2026.
The decision follows productive engagement with industry stakeholders and first-hand observations during committee visits to Mackay and Townsville.
The visits highlighted the significant potential for growth and innovation within Queensland’s sugarcane bioenergy sector.
Committee Chair Stephen Bennett MP said the committee believed that “stakeholders in this sector have waited long enough for meaningful support and action,” and that the committee now had the evidence it needed to make timely, impactful recommendations.
Having gathered extensive information through public hearings, briefings, submissions, and roundtables, the committee is confident that it can put forward recommendations that will help drive progress in Queensland’s emerging bioenergy economy.
The committee also acknowledges the additional funding commitments made at both state and federal levels to support biofuels and state development initiatives.
