Swift promotion for Dimbulah student
DIMBULAH’s Xtrheem Taekwondo has produced yet another black belt, with 23-year-old Kel Wilson earning his promotion at the recent winter gradings.
The highlight of the recent gradings was Wilson’s promotion to 1st Dan Black Belt, after training in the sport for just two years.
On the night Wilson demonstrated his self-defence proficiency, performing 1st grade/black tip pattern Choong-Moo, which comprises of 30 individual defending and attacking movements followed by several rounds of high energy, free-sparing with various opponents.
He also demonstrated his effective self-defence ability, successfully breaking a total of 10 timber boards with two front kicks, two turning kicks, two side kicks, one jumping back kick, one spinning heel kick, and two downward punches.
Wilson is the 67th student to achieve black belt level at the Dimbulah Taekwondo Training Centre under the tutelage of Master Instructor Phil Quayle and is on his way to becoming a qualified instructor himself.
“Almost 70 students have taken up the challenge to become a black belt in Xtrheem Taekwondo. That’s an extremely impressive statistic for a small town like Dimbulah with a population of around a thousand residents,” Quayle said.
“Congratulations to all students who attended gradings on the night and achieved the next level in the art of Xtrheem Taekwondo.”
Next year the club will celebrate 50 years of being involved in the Dimbulah community, and it is planning a special celebration to mark the occasion.
“We at Xtrheem Taekwondo are planning a cabaret dinner dance mid-year to celebrate this golden anniversary,” secretary Gaye Taylor said.
“Past and present taekwondo members, their families, and members of the Dimbulah and Mutchilba community are invited to attend this event. More information will be released closer to the event.”
