Tablelands crime unit crackdown
MORE than 200 offenders have been charged with 868 offences in the first six months of the Tablelands Property Crime Unit.
MORE than 200 offenders have been charged with 868 offences in the first six months of the Tablelands Property Crime Unit.
The State Government launched the unit in February to target serious repeat offenders and reduce stolen vehicle offences and property crime across the Tablelands.
In its first six months, the unit has charged 142 adults with 611 offences and 85 juveniles with 257 offences.
The unit brings together detectives and plain-clothes officers working alongside the Far North Tactical Crime Squad, Far North Dog Squad, general duties police and POLAIR to disrupt offending and hold offenders to account.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services Dan Purdie said the results showed the difference targeted policing and stronger laws were making.
Far North District Officer Acting Chief Superintendent Mick Searle said the Tablelands Property Crime Unit will continue to target property crime offenders causing harm in the community.
“These officers are some of the most dedicated and hard-working police in our region, and the results from the past six months highlight their commitment to community safety,” he said.
“Their local knowledge, use of intelligence-driven strategies, and coordinated efforts means they target the right people, in the right places, at the right time.
“We will continue to adapt our approaches to disrupting, preventing and investigation crime to meet community needs.”
