Tablelands groups boosted by govt gambling funds
MORE than $200,000 has been awarded to Tablelands community organisations through the State Government’s gambling fund.

Local sports clubs, tourism, wildlife rescue and Meals On Wheels were among the beneficiaries of this latest round of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF), which supports volunteer-led services, community events and clubs, grassroots sports improvements and projects that improve wellbeing and inclusion.
The Tablelands funding was part of more than $14 million in grants announced last week, with almost 600 community organisations receiving grants of up to $35,000.
Local recipients included:
Atherton Cricket Association Inc, which received $31,000 for a new mower;
Atherton Tableland Hockey Association, which received $33,000 to upgrade playing fields;
Cape York & Tablelands Branch of the Australian Stock Horse Society, which received $34,866 to upgrade the Equestrian Arena;
Dimbulah Community Kindergarten and Childcare, which received $26,243 for upgraded flooring;
Mareeba Shire Tourism, which received $33,175 to develop website and visitors guide;
Mt Surprise Sports & Recreation Club, which received $35,000 to upgrade the facility;
Tableland Netball Association, which received $18,620 to install grandstand seating;
Ravenshoe and District Tourism Development Association, which received $14,000 for a new printer;
Ravenshoe and District Meals on Wheels Association which received $4,730 for IT equipment;
Far North Queensland Wildlife Rescue Association, which received $2,644 for IT and badge-making equipment; and
Herberton-Watsonville Rifle Club, which received $1,349 to purchase equipment.
Attorney-General, Minister for Justice and Minister for Integrity, Deb Frecklington, said GCBF funding rounds were critical in providing support to regional Queensland towns and cities.
“It’s fantastic to see $14 million flowing to community services - whether it’s for a new shed to store equipment, upgrading dated facilities, or installing air conditioning for the hot summer months – every dollar helps local groups and the communities that depend on them,” she said.
