The Atherton Subaru ELEV8XCM, hosted by Tableland Cycle Sports, is celebrating two decades of competition with exciting new elements, major sponsorship and prize money, and a nod to its humble beginnings.

The course at the Atherton Forest Mountain Bike Park is renowned for its scenery and technical challenges. Riders from across north Queensland and beyond flock to Atherton to take on the rolling climbs, fast descents, and technical singletrack that makes the marathon a true test of skill and endurance.

Around 200 competitors will take on the course at the event which caters to a range of abilities, from elite athletes to newcomers.

“What sets ELEV8XCM apart isn’t just the course, it’s the community,” Tableland Cycle Sports (TCS) president David Prete said.

“From the volunteers at each checkpoint to the families, friends and teammates cheering through the event village, there’s an atmosphere here you just can’t find anywhere else.”

The event has welcomed Atherton Subaru as its major sponsor, and this year will boast a total of $4,000 in prize money, making it one of the more lucrative mountain biking competitions in the region.

Two random $500 cash prizes will also be given out during the presentation ceremony, ensuring that “luck and a sense of adventure remain a part of the event’s spirit”.

“Atherton Subaru shares our passion for adventure, community, and getting outdoors,” TCS treasurer Michael Lawrence said.

“Their backing not only helps us enhance the rider experience but also allows us to offer the biggest prize pool the event has ever seen.”

The event first began as the Herberton 8 Hour 20 years ago; a local experiment aiming to bring mountain bikers together for a day of challenge and fun.

After years of gaining traction, it has culminated into the popular ELEV8XCM it is today, making the Atherton trails a must-visit destination for cycling enthusiasts and adventure seekers.

After the dust settles at this year’s event, celebrations will continue into the night with an official after-party being hosted at the Billycart Brewery.

The Atherton Subaru ELEV8XCM will be held this Saturday at 9am and is expected to finish around 5pm.
